Toolik Inlet Discharge Data collected in summer 2006, Arctic LTER, Toolik Research Station, Alaska.

Abstract:

Stream discharge, stage height, temperature, and conductivity of Toolik Inlet during the 2006 study season. Water level was recorded with a Stevens PGIII Pulse Generator and water temperature and conductivity with a Campbell Scientific Model 247 Conductivity (EC) and Temperature probe. A Campbell Scientific CR510 data logger logged the data.

Methods:

For discharge measurement protocol, see the Land-Water protocol accessible from the Land-Water mainpage on the Arctic LTER web page or at http://www-personal.umich.edu/~gwk and clicking on the protocol link at the bottom of the page.

Water level was recorded continuously with with a Stevens PGIII Pulse Generator connected to a Campbell Scientific CR510 datalogger. Additionally, we deployed a Campbell Scientific Model 247 Conductivity (EC) and Temperature probe, deployed near the bottom of the stream, which also recorded to the CR510.

Discharge measurements were taken throughout each season to determine the stage-discharge relationship. When the stage heights exceed our range from the study year's rating curve, we apply a standardized composite rating curve (from 1996-2013) for Toolik Inlet to solve for stream discharge.

Temperature data were rounded to nearest tenth of a degC, in accordance with sensor manufacturer's specifications
Conductivity data were rounded to nearest uS/cm, in accordance with sensor manufacturer's specifications
Discharge data were rounded to 3 significant digits

Version Changes:

Adjusted discharge measurements based on two rating curves, the Yearly and Composite. See Methods.
Entered metadata into new metadata form.
Version 2: Data URL was changed to point to the LTERNET Data Access server
Version 3: LTERNET Data Access server proxy changed from das.lternet.edu to metacat.lternet.edu.
Version 4: Added LTERNET Data Access server proxy for Excel files.
Version 5: Update LTERNET Data Access server proxy link for Excel and comma delimited data files. Changed from knb to das in url. Added better title and change the template to php. Feb 210 JimL
Version 6: Updated units to current standards. Updated metadata form to newer version (without site sheet). CH 4Feb2013 Updated to newer metadata form (with sites sheet) Ch March 2013.
Version 7: Checked keywords against the LTER network preferred list and replaced non-preferred terms. Jim L 15Jan14
Changed Distribution URL since the LTER network DAS system is being discontinued. JimL 9Apr2015
2 February 2016. Changed file with Dataset ID *.02 to Dataset ID *.03. The discharge measurements were corrected based on updated rating curves, removed the variable "stage height" because this is a relative measure not comparable across years. Changed the number of reported digits for Temp, Cond., and Discharge. See Methods.
