Abstract: 

Stems were measured, and aged from Ledum palustre and Salix pulchra species on treated plots at Toolik Lake, AK. Stem secondary growth in per cent per year was estimated from the slope of weight per unit length vs. age.

Methods: 

8 randomly chosen samples of Ledum palustre , and Salix pulchra stems were taken from Greenhouse, fertilized, and control plots on the 1978 Toolik greenhouse plots. The stems were aged, using the bug scars and collected for years 1,3,6,12 and 15. The segments were than counted, weighed and measured.
