Betula nana leaf mineral leaf 15N, 13C, %N, %C was measured over the summer seasons in 2007 and 2008 at our shrub site. Fresh fully expanded leaves were collected several times during the summer.

Methods: 

This is Betula nana leaf mineral nutrition as measured over the summer seasons in 2007 and 2008 at our sthrub site. Fresh fully expanded leaves were collected several times during the summer, air dried and then oven dried at 50oC for 48 hrs. Leaves where then ground to a powder in a bead beater. Subsamples were then weighed out for analysis. Total C and N were measured on our Elemental Analyzer and the subseqauent 15N and 13C were measured on the same samples using a Finnigan Detla plus stable isotope ratio mass spectrometer.
