Methods:

Discharge measurements were recorded at Tussock Watershed starting in 1991. The flume structure is an 1.5 H-flume. The measured discharge does not match the expected discharge (based upon the flume type); therefore, a relationship between measured stage height and discharge was determined on an annual basis (e.g. yearly rating curve) for the prediction of discharge from continuous stage height measurements. Simultaneous manual measurements of stage height and discharge were performed periodically during the summer field season. Continuous stage height was measured using a drum record until 1996 when a Steven’s PGIII pulse generator was installed and logged to a Campbell Scientific data recorder. Water temperature has been recorded since 1996 and electrical conductivity has been recorded since 1998.

Rating curves vary greatly between the years, most likely as a result of the flume structure shifting as a result of variable field conditions. To minimize this variation, an attempt is made seasonally to 'level' the flume.
