Methods:
Soil cores were collected along a topographic sequence from the footslope to the ridge crest as well as the Imnavait Creek floodplain. Each core of peat, approximately 15 cm2 was cut to the depth of mineral soils and sampled at1 to 2 cm intervals.
Percent moisture was determined by drying to constant weight at 105 degrees Celcius and loss on ignition to be converted to percent organic carbon, determined by combustion at 550 degrees Celcius.Dried samples were ground to a fine powder and prepared for del 13C and radiocarbon measurements.
